Driving Directions into Ithaca and the Cornell Campus

Given that there is significant construction around Ithaca and Cornell, the following are are the simplest routes, with the least chances for confusion, into the city and the Cornell campus.

From Syracuse and the northeast: Take I-81 S to Exit 12 (Homer). Turn left at the traffic light at the end of the access road; this is Rt. 281 S, which feeds directly into Rt. 13 S when it ends. Take 13 S to Ithaca; in the center of the Village of Dryden there is a right turn at the traffic light intersection with Rts. 38 / 392. Stay on Rt. 13. Approaching Ithaca, just past the NYSEG facility on the left there is a traffic light at the intersection of Rt. 366. Turn left onto 366 and continue below From Rt. 366.

From Rochester, Buffalo, and the northwest: Take the Thruway to exit 41 (Seneca Falls), turn right, then left at the light onto Rt. 318. Take that to its end, turn left, then immediately turn right onto Rt. 89 S. Follow 89 into Ithaca—it hugs the lakeshore for much of its length—and when it reaches the city, turn left at the first light onto Buffalo St. and left again 2 blocks later for Rt. 13 N (Meadow St). Follow From Rt. 13.

From Elmira, Corning, and the southwest: Take your best route to Rt. 17/I-86 E towards Elmira, NY; in the village of Horseheads just NW of Elmira take exit 54 and follow Rt. 13 N to Ithaca. In Ithaca Rt. 13 becomes Meadow St. Follow From Rt. 13.

From Binghamton and the southeast: Take your best route to I-81 N, through Binghamton, and get off at exit 8 (Lisle/ Whitney Point). Turn right, then left at the T-intersection onto Rt. 11 N. Watch for the left branch onto Rt. 79 W after ca. 4km/2.5 mi. Follow Rt. 79 ca. 40km/25 mi to Ithaca, and turn right at the blinking light for Pine Tree Rd. (as of early July, Rt. 79 is closed to through traffic past that point and you have no choice but to turn right), and continue From Pine Tree Rd.

From Rt. 366: Ca. 5 km/3 mi in, there is a traffic light at the eastern edge of the Cornell campus.
To the Townhouses: Turn right onto Caldwell Dr. Follow it down a hill, across a 1-lane bridge (there is a pair of very sharp 90-degree turns immediately after the bridge!), past 2 stop signs, and uphill—the road is now named Pleasant Grove Rd. When it reaches level ground again, take the 2nd left onto Jessup Rd. The Townhouses are the low buildings on the right; the Robert Purcell Community Center (RPCC) will be on the left just before they end, and it has parking. CU Conference Registration is inside RPCC, down the flight of stairs; they will be able to show you the paid parking lot.
To the Best Western: continue past Caldwell to the second, red, blinking light and turn left onto Pine Tree Rd. It curves around ca. 1km / .6 mi and the entrance to East Hill Plaza shopping Mall is on the left, opposite a Rite-Aid. The Best Western is at the far end of East Hill Plaza.

From Rt. 13: Go N through the west end of Ithaca and up East Hill on Rt. 13 to the Triphammer Rd exit, where all the malls are. Turn right onto Triphammer Rd. S. In ca. 1.6 km / 1 mi there is a slightly complicated 5-way intersection; bear to your hardest left onto Hanshaw Rd., and very soon thereafter turn right onto Pleasant Grove Rd., opposite the convenience store / Sunoco station. You will pass the Ithaca Country Club and a golf course on your left and a parking lot on your right. Just past the parking lot is Jessup Rd. on the right.
To the Townhouses: Turn right on Jessup. The Townhouses are the low buildings on the right; the Robert Purcell Community Center (RPCC) will be on the left just before they end, and it has parking. CU Conference Registration is inside RPCC, down the flight of stairs; they will be able to show you the paid parking lot.
To the Best Western: continue past Jessup. Pleasant Grove will curve downhill to the left—go somewhat slowly!—and straight on past two stop signs. Go slowly again because right after that there is a pair of very sharp 90-degree turns, followed by a one-lane bridge. Cross the bridge and continue uphill—the road is now Caldwell Dr.—to the traffic light. Turn right, then turn left at the second, red, blinking light onto Pine Tree Rd. Pine Tree curves around ca. 1km / .6 mi and the entrance to East Hill Plaza shopping Mall is on the left, opposite a Rite-Aid. The Best Western is at the far end of East Hill Plaza.

From Pine Tree Rd & Rt. 79: Follow Pine Tree uphill for ca. 1.6 km/ 1 mi. to the traffic light and East Hill Plaza shopping mall.
To the Best Western: Turn into East Hill Plaza; the Best Western is at the far end.
To the Townhouses: Continue past East Hill Plaza to the red blinking light, turn right, go past the yellow blinking light to the traffic light at Caldwell Rd. Turn left and follow Caldwell down a hill, across a one-lane bridge (there is a pair of very sharp 90-degree turns immediately after the bridge!), past 2 stop signs, and uphill—the road is now named Pleasant Grove Rd.
